WYANDOTTE KICKS OFF LOCAL FIRST MOVEMENT AT ITS POPULAR 3rd FRIDAY
EVENT
The Wyandotte Business Association would like you to "Think local and
buy local". That's what is on the cover of the new 2008 City Guide that
will be released this month during the usual live entertainment, trolley
tours, free horse and carriage rides, art crawl and other special 3rd Friday festivities on March 21st.
The Guide, besides having a listing of many of the businesses and
amenities in Wyandotte , also gives statistics on the benefits of
keeping money in your own backyard. Peter Rose, President of the
Wyandotte Business Association and manager of Chelseas , a local men's
clothing store, stated, "Spending your money where you house is makes
sense on many levels. If you spend a $100 at a local business, $68 of
your money stays in your community whereas out of that same amount spent
in a big box store, $57 leaves. We think it's a good bargain for all to
have the money stay and build up their own community."
Rose also stated that The Guide shows "you really don't have to leave
your community for most of your needs." He pointed out that the book
highlights everything from a Kayak store to candy and ice cream shops to
martial art and dance studios. "Our selection of restaurants covers
ethnic to American cuisine and casual dining to white table
establishments." The Guide has a description of all types of retailers
and services within the Wyandotte borders.
To bring more attention to all that is available within their city, many
of the merchants have pulled together what they are calling "The
Ultimate Wyandotte Experience" . This is a package that can be won by
visiting any of the businesses in the City Guide and filling out a small
survey. It includes an overnight stay for two in the historic Bishop
Brighton Bed and Breakfast and then be showered with treats such as
chocolate covered strawberries, roses, wine, and
many other decadent
delights all supplied by local businesses. There will also be dinner,
movies, massages and hundreds of dollars worth of gift certificates. The
winners will be photographed by the nationally known fine art
photographer, Patricia Izzo. Besides receiving a framed image, they
will be displayed in an upcoming gallery exhibition of Izzo's work.
During 3rd Friday all comers will be entertained
by The Irish Navvies, Larry Larson and Charlie Taylor, on the Elm Street
Stage from 6 to 10 PM.
