The Fox Theatre is located in the center of Detroit's entertainment district, known as 'The District Detroit.' Opening in 1928, the theater was designed by architect C. Howard Crane, and was the second largest movie theater in the world at the time. Eve Leo, wife of pioneer film producer William Fox (and founder of Twentieth Century-Fox) was responsible for the ornately decorated interior, featuring Far Eastern, Indian and Egyptian styles.

The Fox changed hands several times and eventually fell into decay. In 1987 it was purchased by Mike and Marion Ilitch who completely restored the Fox Theater, now considered one of Detroit's premier performance venues.
